Billy Joel's ongoing residency at New York's Madison Square Garden rolls on with the latest date announced for the “Piano Man” now set for October 25th. The show, which will be his 69th show as part of the MSG residency, will also be his 115th career-gig at the hallowed Manhattan arena. Billy's record-setting franchise run at MSG kicked off on January 27th, 2014, with Billy performing once a month at the venue ever since. Billy's next Garden show is set for his 70th birthday on May 9th.
During a recent chat with Steinway & Sons, Billy Joel shed light on his current songwriting process: “Some days I'll wake up in the morning with a theme in my head, or a melody, or a chord progression. And I'll sit down at the piano and try to work out what that was that was that in my head. Some days, I just sit at the piano and say, 'Okay, let's see what happens' — allowing the music to move me. I'm not thinking about words, I'm not thinking about, y'know, the subject matter of the song; I'm waiting for the music to move me to wanna finish a piece, to complete a piece.”
