Triple Frontier star Ben Affleck appeared on NBC’s The Today Show Monday, and had a remarkably candid conversation about addiction and his ex Jennifer Garner.
Affleck famously re-entered rehab for the third time late last summer, with Garner’s help. Affleck told Today’s Hoda Kotb: [“It doesn’t really bother me to talk about alcoholism and being an alcoholic. It’s part of my life. It’s something that I deal with. It doesn’t have to sort of subsume my whole identity and be everything, but it is something that you have to work at. I feel like I had a problem and I really want to address it, and I take some pride in that.”] (0:19 :SOUNDCUE OC: … "pride in that")
He also discussed Garner, with whom he shares three children, and their attempts to co-parent peacefully. Affleck said: “I hope I’m a pretty good dad. I certainly try very hard. I’m lucky they’ve got a great mom. She helps out a great deal with making sure that we co-parent in as good a way as possible.”
When Kotb said that they way he talked about Garner showed that he still loves her, he said: “Of course. She’s wonderful. You know, somebody’s the mother of your kids, they’re gonna be the most important, central person in your life, and that’s good.”
Meanwhile, Affleck, 46, and Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus, 38, seemingly confirmed reports that they are back together. They stepped out for Sunday’s premiere of Netflix’s Triple Frontier, which also stars Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, Garrett Hedlund and Oscar Isaac.
While they didn’t walk the red carpet together, they were photographed together before the event and later at after-parties. They split in August, shortly before he re-entered rehab.
